The municipality and reporting changes

You report a move, a birth or a marriage to the municipality. Why that matters.

Reporting changes

The municipality records who lives where, in the Personal Records Database (BRP). That is why you report changes in your family to the municipality: a birth, a marriage, living together, a divorce, a death and a move.

A change in your household can affect a benefit or allowance. So report it in time.

What else does the municipality do?

At the municipality you apply, for example, for a passport or ID card. The municipality also collects local taxes, such as property tax (ozb), sewerage charges, waste charges and parking charges.
